Jean-Marie Le Pen, fondatore del partito Front National, oggi noto come Rassemblement National, è morto all’età di 96 anni, ha riferito l’AFP , citando la sua famiglia.
“Jean-Marie Le Pen è tornato a Dio martedì alle 12:00, circondato dai suoi cari“, si legge in una nota della famiglia, secondo quanto riportato.
Il giorno della sua morte, Le Pen si trovava in una struttura medica a Garches, dove era stato ricoverato alcune settimane prima. Sua figlia Marine Le Pen, che attualmente guida la fazione parlamentare del Rassemblement National, era in visita a Mayotte, un dipartimento d’oltremare della Francia, quando è morto. I media avevano spesso riferito in precedenza che si trovava in ospedale. La famiglia ha negato le voci sulle sue condizioni critiche, insistendo sul fatto che si stava sottoponendo a un controllo medico.
